Introduction
There are several reasons why interactive
systems are proving popular for Museums and Visitor Centres:
• It could be part of a gallery, where users would be standing - hence
the systems would only run for a short time - about 5 minutes.
• It could be in its own room and users would have comfortable chairs
and more control on what they see. Visitors have been known to spend over
an hour on our comprehensive systems at Foxton and Devizes.
• The Internet and CD-ROMs can be used to send information remotely (e.g.
to schools).
Interpretation
Interactive Presentations Limited provides
a very powerful interpretative tool for any museum or visitor centre.
From one interactive terminal, visitors can view sound-slide presentations,
video clips, animation, information pages consisting of photographs, diagrams
and text, archived material or interactive games.
The system can be used to:
• Provide interpretative information for the general public and for schools
or factual information for researchers.
• Provide information about the museum or visitor centre, or the organisation
running it.
• Provide up-to-date information about forthcoming events, or to display
adverts.
• Provide flexibility:
In a gallery at busy times, only highlights need be shown. When the gallery
is quiet the operating mode can be changed to allow the public access
to archived material.
The system is easy to use and the public will
enjoy the experience:
• Visual information is presented on a screen using high quality images
and text, accompanied by the spoken word, sound effects and music.
• Information presented is easily changed, keeping your displays up-to-date.
