Hawk Trainer Seat Removal and Installation

BAE Systems have developed a training facility for training Hawk pilots. This system is provided to the RAF under a Private Finance Initiative agreement. If the facility is down for any time it could cost BAE Systems money. Therefore, they want to minimise the down time. At present the manuals produced are paper based. Interactive Presentations demonstrated how multimedia could help technicians to perform complex tasks quickly and efficiently.

This shows a typical information screen which will be seen by the user at his or her desk. On the left is a list of headings. The user passes the mouse over the headings and text and graphics are displayed. If the sound button is on, the user has the text spoken. Access is also possible to enlarged images, video clips and animations.

When there are difficult tasks, the user is presented with further information which could include interviews with people who have already performed the task.

The user may require the information to be presented "in situ". This entails a different approach. The interaction will not be so detailed and sound could be very effective. The screen shows the design for this option. The user can move up or down through the steps by clicking on the arrows. If the sound is on, every time a new step is entered, the text is spoken. This could be repeated a number of times if required.

This technique can be a very powerful technique in getting the necessary information over to the required person, quickly and efficiently. Information can be provided by CD-ROM or over an Internet or Intranet.
